Historic Tomorrow Do We Expect Too Much?
January 19, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Tomorrow is a historic day. Our hopes rest in the leadership of President Obama. I hope he is true to his word and does not become another Washington politician. I hope he does not cave in to make decisions that only consider our present circumstances. I hope he can lead us out of this mess into a brighter future. Most of America is ready for change.

President Elect and a few other thoughts
November 10, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Of the past Presidents in my lifetime, Reagan and Clinton were good at uniting people. If Obama can unite us to deliver 1/3 of his vision for America he will be the greatest president in my lifetime and maybe even the lifetime of our nation…
…
… It is hard to understand the boots you never get to wear. I have never much looked at race when dealing with others so can be insensitive sometimes. But after the election, watching the raw emotion of people like Jesse Jackson and Colin Powell really drove home what a big deal this moment in history is for African Americans.

President Obama, you too have a lot of class…

Your acceptance speech was one of the most moving and inspirational I have heard, and I have been listening since Nixon.
Now use your God given ability to lead and unite us as a nation. I believe you have it in you to do so.

McCain has class, many in your audience did not

One of the classiest speeches I have heard. John, you did not get my vote but I know you have a lot of class, and I know you are sincere in the words you spoke. Your character was never in question.
Many in your audience showed you great disrespect with their classless booing and jeering. You handled it with the utmost grace. My hat is off to you.

Not too early to call

Congratulations President Obama.
You have an incredible task before you. Also, having a democratic senate and congress you need to be wise and prudent in the decisions you make.
Senator McCain is a classy guy and will no doubt show this after Obama is declared the winner.
Democrats, you have control. Let’s see what you are made of.
Republicans, it is time to look in the mirror. You have lost because you are lost.
Finally, I hope it is a long time before I hear the word Maverick again.

Let’s look back to my June 25th Post
October 24, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I don’t want to say I told you so…but I am. On June 25th I berated both the Democrats and the Republicans and how they were handling matters. Actually it was quite the tirade.
I do not claim to be a sooth-sayer or any great pundant on these matters. During this tirade I asked Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain and their parties to get to the issues. I also predicted that if the republicans did not pull their heads out they would be in for the surprise of their life come November. Newsflash, they are still clueless. Obviously Obama and his party read the tea leaves as they seem to be more in touch and as a result will win convincingly 12 days from now.

Pravda? Come on Newt
October 24, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I usually like what Newt Gingrich has to say. He seems to be one of the few remaining conservatives that has not totally lost his mind. But when Newt recently compared CNN to Pravda I could not help but think “Newt, dude, have you never seen Lou Dobbs program?”

DO NOT Forget about Foreign Oil Dependency!

With gas prices falling it is far too easy to breath a sigh of relief and ignore this issue. We certainly did back in the seventies. Fact is a) for the sake of climate change; b) our economy, we need to deal with this issue just the same as if prices were still $4.25+ per gallon.
On a positive note according to http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_cars_are_there_in_the_US there are 62 million registered vehicles in the US. If these cars conservatively use 8 gallons of gas each a week lets apply some simple math. When gas was $4.00 a gallon Americans were spending 1.98 billion a week in buying gas. With gas now at $2.91 a gallon we are spending 1.44 billion a week. Consumers are some spending $540 million less a week. This is money that is making its way into other facets of our economy. These are conservative numbers.

I am willing to consider I have caught the liberal disease…
September 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Maybe it is just me but I am getting more and more disgusted with Fox news. It seems to have become a propaganda machine for the “Right”. Where is the objectivity?
I have started watching CNN more. While they clearly have a liberal bent they seem to try to be much more objective in their reporting. In particular I think Anderson Cooper’s 360 is an excellent venue from what little I have seen. The panel is engaging. They are able and willing to back up what they say with facts.
It is possible that I am becoming a liberal. But the real point is that news used to be without bias (as much is humanly possible). When did this change? Where is the objectivity in news these days? It is becoming harder and harder to be objective in this society and this is a large part of the reason. News has become about ratings and money. Sad. This needs to change.

First Presidential Debate - Advantage Obama
September 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I think McCain did a good job. I think he was articulate. What was interesting to me in watching this debate was not so much what they were saying (though this was very, very important). What was important was their demeanor and how they responded to others criticism of one another.
This is a time in our nations history when we really need a leader, someone with presence and poise in “the big chair”. I recall past debates and how folks like Dole and Mondale (and a host of others) tanked in the debates. Obama’s performance was strong.
Advantage Obama.
