The Olbermann Factor?
September 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment
There was a time, not long ago, that I would agree with about 50% of what he said. Still, I found him provocative, and his staff does a good job of fact checking, and putting together substantative arguments.
These days it is hard not to disagree with the man. His whole show is devoted to exposing the madness of the right.
I do not believe I am unique in this position. But, if the right is intending on swinging the independents to their side they need to have a side! Bashing the left is not a side.
Get a side or get lost.
The vitriolic positions of the right-wing media only serve to push independents farther away. In fact, until the right has a major house cleaning you will likely not get many of our votes. Flat out, you have lost our trust and become scary.

What is Capitalism?
September 19, 2009 | Leave a Comment
This is a serious question whose answer our society has lost sight of. First, lets start with what capitalism is not…
Capitalism is not CEO and company executives getting million dollar bonuses when their companies lose money.
Capitalism is not creating a climate where it is acceptable to borrow against the paper gains in our homes to fund todays fun and games
Capitalism is not getting rich from reckless overleverage and risky financial instruments.
Capitalism is not the hoarding of wealth.
Capitalism is the growth of real wealth. There is nothing wrong with profit and growth. Profit allows for reinvestment of wealth, which creates more jobs and more opportunity.
Capitalisms biggest enemy is not socialism or communism. It never has been. Capitalisms biggest emeny is greed. Over the past decade this nation has collectively operated its system of capitalism under the shadow of greed.
For our nation to endure requires our captians of business to start steering the rudder of captialism in a direction that leads us out these dark and forboding times. We do not need to stop innovating. We do not need to stop growing.
If your children brought home failing grades, would you kill the fatted calf and celebrate? Would you rush out and buy them an iPhone as a reward? What message do we send our children when businesses lose money and leaders are rewarded with bonuses? What are we communicating when we mortgage our lives to the hilt in order to serve the pleasures of today?
Capitalism is what drives our nation. Conservatives, moderates, liberals all live in its world. There is not a man or woman in government that is not confronted by it on a daily basis.
There are still great people out there like Gates and Buffet that understand and practice captialism as it is meant to practiced. We still have too many captains at the helm that only understand greed. We need regulation, we need reform. We need to show those fueled by greed the door, so that they once again become the exception and not the rule.
Most of all we need a clear definition as to what captialism is, not what it has become.

ENOUGH ALREADY!!! Be Constructive or Be Quiet
September 17, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Speaking your mind and disagreeing with policy and politics is our right as Americans.
This nonsense about the president not being an American, referring to him as Hitler, calling others Socialists, calling for succession. NONE OF THIS is constructive to the national dialog. REPEAT, none of this is constructive. There is nothing happening in this country that calls for this type of language and behavior.
BE CONSTRUCTIVE OR BE QUIET.
Those of you that are quiet, stand-up and call people out for this type of behavior.

Frightening and Intolerant
September 14, 2009 | Leave a Comment
For the majority of the sane left in America. The behavior of the lunatic fringe and the enabling of them by the Republican party through their silence is not just sad, it is dangerous. If there is treason in the air it is being perpetuated by this fringe element…
Succession from the Union?
Bringing Guns to Public Gatherings?
Talk of Revolution?
And, those of you with sense standing in silence. All it really will take during this time is one plane into a building, one more meltdown of the economy and the behavior of rationale people can change in a very bad way.
We are at the cliff of some scary times. We no longer just have a few Timothy McVeighs out there right now.
