Lincoln was a Republican. The party that started the civil war and ultimately ended slavery. At the time the Democrats were in power in the South, pro-slavery, with serious ties to the KKK.

Now the Democratic party is close to sending an African American to run for President. The Republicans have become the party of the White Anglo Saxon Protestant.

My how things have changed.

McCain actually has some good ideas and good vision for the problems America faces and the direction we need to take. But, unless you go to his site and do independent research you are not likely to find out his position as the Republican party and the conservative media seems more bent on lamenting on how he is tearing the party apart. Hmmmmm…..

The conservative media (talk radio, TV personalities like Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck) seem more concerned about the apparent demise of the Republican party than they do about the nation and world at large. The arrogance this communicates to the rest of us is quite astounding.

Maybe to conservative Republicans this is a huge deal. To independents that have not yet decided I think this is serving to turn most of us off to the Rebuplican candidates.

From your pulpits you can wield great influence, but most of us are informed enough to see the load of crap you are trying to heap upon our shovel.

I am listening to Benny Goodman and his Orchestra live at Carnegie Hall 1938. Man this is some great stuff. This is a 1938 recording so the sound cannot compare to fidelity circa 2008, but when you consider this is a live, historic gig it is just some amazing stuff. Wow.

To be able to be in the audience for this would have been something. He ended up with this gig based on a publicity stunt put on by his then publicist Wynn Nathanson. He played to a packed house. Members of Count Basie and Duke Ellington’s bands sat in for some of the numbers. His band included Harry James, Gene Krupa, Martha Tilton. I would have loved to have been in Manhattan that night for the show. The best seats going for $2.75 (a chunk of change in ‘38)

Super bowl is the time for advertisers to put their best work on the line. This year was not so good. I thought Coke did the best job and Budweiser had a couple clever ones. Other than those my wife and I thought most of them were just plain dumb.

It was almost as if the advertisers were trying too hard. Most were just over the top in a very unmemorable way.

Thank goodness the game was not!

Your second superbowl commercial was beyond innapropriate. Even in our too politically and socially correct environment what you did was appalling. Your portrayal of Asians was downright racist. I was actually waiting for a third commercial from you, maybe you could have put black shoe polish on a caucasian and sang mammy.

After New England came down and scored late in the game to take a 14-10 lead I thought they may go 19-0 but based on their lackluster performance in this game there will be on-going debate as to the greatest team of all time.

But you just new when Eli Manning somehow got out of the grasp on third down, less than a minute to play, hurled the ball downfield to David Tyree who made a catch that you had to see to believe you just knew something special was in the making.

I am an independent. I also have a tendency towards being conservative in my political views. I want to declare these two things right up front.

America faces so many problems and challenges in the years to come. The environment, the economy, education, immigration, terrorism, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

People like Sean Hannity and Rush Linbaugh seem to have temporarily lost their minds as have many Republicans in the media. They all seem more concerned that McCain is getting close to winning their parties ticket. What an outrage this is to them. They are all more concerned with this than they are with the actual issues America faces and how we are going to solve them.

For a party that once had a decent grip on reality the Republicans have lost their way. Quit worrying about WRWD (What Regan Would Do) and how conservative your candidate should be and start dialing in to the problems we face and what your party is going to do to solve them. Independent voters do not care about your parties internal horse manure and plan on voting with the issues. Independent voters will be deciding this election and we could care less about your internal squabbles.

Here are the 4 candidates that have a shot at their parties nomination:

Clinton

Obama

Romney

McCain

If Global warming is an issue that is important to you then you only have two choices for president. Clinton or Obama. Both their websites a) acknowledge this as a real and important issue; b)  have very specific plans for dealing with the problem.

Romney’s site has no mention of the problem. McCain’s site does mention the problem but has nothing more than hyberbole and rhetoric that is not at all useful.

Your choice is very clear if this is an important issue to you.
