New York Pizza Rocks
February 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Am in NYC this week on business staying in Midtown. Just got through devouring a 14″ pie at Angelo’s on W 57th and 6th (across the street from Carnegie Hall).
There is no shortage of great pizza places in the city. I just love this city and the people.

1 in Every 6 Living in Poverty
February 27, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The two headlines in todays Seattle Times: “More upscale projects for downtown Bellevue” and “1 out of 6 Americans depend on programs for poor”. I am not sure how many people saw the irony of this? I am not sure how many did, but did not care?
Some facts:
- 1.9 million living in poverty are under the age of 5.
- 1/3 more females are living in poverty than males.
- 44 million relied on government services in 2003, compared with 39 million in 1996.
Why can’t these people make a living wage? Shouldn’t people that want to work in this country be entitled to make a living wage? Have affordable housing? Access to affordable health care?
What do we do about this?

From my buddy Earl - #2

Love comes in all sizes….

Your Friends will support you….

And respect your creativity for thinking outside the box….

They’ll be there when you need shoulder to lean on….

Or a great big hug….

A true friend takes interest in understanding what you’re all about….

They see beyond the black and white to discover your true colors….

And accept you just the way you are… Even when you just wake up in the morning

So make your own kind of music….

Follow your heart wherever it takes you….

And when someone reaches out to you, don’t be afraid to love them back…

They may just be a friend for life….

Practice patience and tolerance…..

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave…. And impossible to forget!

Tax deductions 2007 - Telephone tax credit
February 19, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Do not forget to get your telephone tax credit when filing your taxes this year . We no longer need to pay the 3% federal telephone excise tax that helped to pay for our involvement in the Spanish-American war of 1898.
You are eligibile for a rebate for taxes you paid on long-distance service from Feb 28th, 2003 and Aug 1st 2006. No, you will not need to dig out your old phone bills to get the rebate.
Your rebate is based on your total number of exemptions as follows:
1 exemption = $30.00
2 exemptions = $40.00
3 exemptions = $50.00
4 or more exemptions = $50.00

Bravo Zulu Richard Branson
February 11, 2007 | Leave a Comment
According to a recent article in the New York Times Richard Branson has declared that ”all of his profits from his five airlines and train company, projected to be $3 billion through the next 10 years, would be invested in developing energy sources that do not contribute to global warming”. For someone running a major airline this is quite a statement. I trust Sir Richard will follow through as he has always been one of the good guys of big business.
We need business to start thinking green. Green can be profitable, and if we can get business to invest in green, and divest in business related to fossil fuels we will be on the right track. Now is the time for action…get busy.
